CHOISES, WORK PATH AND OUTCOMES ( TEXTO EN INGLÉS DE LAURA VIETTO ) Historical premises related to the articles of Incorporation “Filatoio Rosso di Caraglio” dated July 6th, 2001. 1.) The historical building located in Caraglio, today called “Filatoio Rosso” ( ex Galleani Silk Factory) is the most well known historical – cultural industrial heritage in Piedmont, the only one as such by the 1993 Council of Europe , for the following characteristics: a) - The “Filatoio Rosso” is the most ancient example of silk factory intended as a complex mule room and silk spinning mill, wich construction was completed in 1678; b) - The “Filatoio Rosso” is the most ancient and important industrial archeological testimony of the silk world in Europe; c) – The “Filatoio Rosso” is among the still existing most ancient factories of the world, in which the production was already organized as a complete system, including all phases of the production cycle, from the raw material (coccoon) to the finished product (organzine, twisted silk thread, according to local habits), d) – The “Filatoio Rosso” has a known architectural value (work of the Ducal Architect Amedeo di Castellamonte), including two different uses, housing and production, since the installation phase, unique architectual features in the world, e) – The “Filatoio Rosso” is the historical testimony of the economical evolution in 1600, characterized by a leap in technological quality as the first mill (still existing) equipped with hydraulic machinery (woodden ones moved by water). 103
